about

In spite of the title this melody, and this style of playing it, seem very ill-suited to the earthy Romanian folk dance called Honga. The same tune was recorded by Abe Schwartz's Jewish Orchestra in New York as Sadegurer Khosidl. (The same band's recording of "Bessarbia Hangi' is a more appropriate example of music for the dance. Likewise a 1917 recording, of what is certainly a Jewish band credited as "Orchestra Romaneasca", of a tune titled simply 'Hanga' is an excellent example.)
