about

Concertina solo, with piano accompaniment; A very well-informed interpretation klezmer music. Although concertina is not among the traditional instruments of klezmer music, this performance is so good, it's difficult to imagine that Matusevich did not have a klezmer lineage.
The rubato piece at the beginning seems to be unique, but the dance tune which follows uses motifs that appear in a number of tunes from several different sources - some very 'core' klezmer repertoire.

The recording is taken from a 78rpm disk that has an accordion solo on the reverse side - a medley of European Jewish melodies. Nice, but not quite the something-extra-special of this charming performance.
