about

The title aptly suggests the Hassidic associations of this well-known melody. This tune appears in numerous other manifestations both as a song ("S'iz nito keyn nekhtn"), as a slow 'freylekhs' or 'khosidl' like this, and as a much livlier 'freylekhs' (such as the Abe Schwartz Orchestra's recording titled "Simkhas Toyre Nokh di Hakufes". The Abe Schwartz Orchestra recorded this tune as "Makhetonim Tants" in 1917. Schwartz apparently learned it from this recording, with the somewhat garbled melody played at the beginning here by the clarinetist carefully arranged as an introductory section.
